Oh yeah, and the Gohan vs Frieza theme being used in the few instances where Gohan was owning someone/thing was always a nice touch. I also enjoyed the use of Piccolo's and Vegeta's theme, because as the show progressed, they were used more appropriately for the mood of the character and what they were talking about. Satan's theme really built that character for me it really complemented his obnoxiousness (in the dub anyways) and brought him over the top, where I thought he should have been. Of course, I think things like the Faulconer Mr. But I just recall how the Japanese score was awesome for Dragon Ball, and I imagine that the score for DBZ was at least decent (since I haven't watched Z with Japanese BGM).
However, someone posted a couple clips on youtube with the Japanese Super Saiyan and Super Saiyan 3 transformations, and I feel that more epic music would have been appropriate for the mood. Sometimes silence can help to build the mood. I remember reading a while back a comment that I fully agree with along the lines of "As far as pure background music goes, I prefer the Japanese score, but as far as character themes, it's Faulconer hands down."Īfter all, I never really enjoyed the fact that for the Faulconer edition has music *constantly* playing in the background. Then again, not many other anime would have been able to carry them through those years in spite of those negative circumstances. I just think it's a shame that Dragon Ball had to be the fledgling experimental title. At the time they were very overextended, trying to make the best of it. If anything, I *blame* FUNi for wanting a redone score while being on a budget with such intense demands. I'm fairly critical on the dub score, but I don't blame Faulconer or the studio. I think that many people don't think to separate those things in their head. Granted there were definitely other problems ^^ I think we were pretty delivered supremely on:įast Results, Quantity, and Affordabilityĭoes it mean the studio sucked cause we didn't have time or money to get a live orchestra? You echoed my sentiments on so much of it!!Īnd "cheap synthesized music" is really part of the whole balancing act between what people want:įast Results vs Quality vs Quantity vs Affordability CRookie_Monster wrote:Wow Chrome, you hit the nail on the head man.
